The City of Auburn is considered one of the best places to live in Northern California. It’s bordered by the beautiful American River Canyon and nestled in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Located at the crossroads of I-80 and historic Highway 49, Auburn is the county seat of Placer County. The City encompasses approximately 7.5 square miles and has a population of 12,800. Situated at elevations between 1,000 and 1,400 feet, the surroundings offer an awesome seasonal change.
Citizens and Visitors are delighted and enriched by the variety of entertainment and cultural events Placer County offers. A taste of entertainment may include an evening with the Symphony or Theatre, Live Music and dancing in a local bar or restaurant. Family entertainment is never ending with outdoor activities, such as biking, hiking, skiing, snow fun, whitewater rafting, story telling at the local libraries, forest ranger activities in the National Park, Donner State Park museum, gold panning, art galleries, outdoor concerts, fairs, rodeos, festivals, farmers markets, car shows and many more ongoing and seasonal recreational activities. The Auburn Art Walks, held in April, June, August, and October, highlight creations by artists who work in clay, glass, wood, fabric, metals, photography, all forms of paint and mixed media. Open studio tours in the spring and autumn offers another opportunity to view local artisan’s works or art. Auburn’s Library Garden Theatre Summer Series of varied concerts, and numerous other local community activities attract patrons of all ages. The Auburn Symphony plays to houses packed with music enthusiasts.
You can’t talk about Auburn without mentioning it’s the “Endurance Capital of the World”. Auburn is home to some of the most challenging and historic endurance events on the planet. Auburn is the home of Western States Endurance Run/Ultra Marathon and the grueling Western States Endurance Ride/Tevis Cup held each year The vast network of roads and trails in the Auburn State Recreation Area and surrounding Sierra Nevada make Auburn a destination for endurance athletes of all levels and interests. The Amgen Tour came to Auburn in 2010 and 2011, and we’re hoping to host them again in the future.
